Global Sources Joint Venture Acquires 70% Stake in China International Optoelectronic Expo

Global Sources (Nasdaq: GSOL) announced eMedia Asia Limited, a joint venture between Global Sources (60%) and United Business Media (40%), acquired a 70% interest in the China International Optoelectronic Expo (CIOE) from United Business Media for a net cash consideration of approximately US$5 million. The remaining 30% interest in CIOE continues to be retained by the other current joint venture co-owner, Shenzhen Herong Exhibition Industrial Co., Ltd.

Finalization of Photovoltaics World Conference Program

The conference program for the Photovoltaics World Conference & Expo, to be held February 23-25, 2010 in Austin, Texas, has been finalized. Recent advances in photovoltaics technology and manufacturing processes will be addressed, as well as emerging applications for photovoltaic-based solar power generation systems. Information will be presented in two different tracks and seven sessions over a three-day program. The conference will be held in conjunction with PennWell's Renewable Energy World Conference & Expo North America, which covers all forms of renewable energy, including the wind, solar, biomass, hydro, geothermal, ocean/tidal/wave, bio-power, bio-fuels hydrogen and energy sectors. Nearly 4,000 renewable energy power professionals attended the 2009 conference, and strong growth in 2010 is expected.

Study Reveals About Half of US Households will Have HDTV by Year End

According to a recent independent study by Leichtman Research Group, nearly 50 percent of U.S. households will own a HDTV by the end of the year, prompting Comcast to remind consumers this holiday season not to forget the HD service when buying a HDTV to ensure they are benefiting from the full HD experience. The independent study also found that just 36 percent of HDTV owners say that they were told how to receive HD programming when they purchased their HDTV.

Alteris Renewables Installs Roof Mounted Solar Panel System at Heritage Aviation Facility

In a first for the renewables and aviation industries, Heritage Aviation, the new General Aviation Facility at the Burlington International Airport, has installed a wind turbine on-site at their new facility. It is a Northwind 100, a 100kW wind turbine manufactured by Northern Power of Barre VT. Heritage Aviation has also installed a 25kW solar electric system and a solar hot water (thermal) system, rounding out its complete on-site renewable energy generation portfolio.

New Molecular Imaging Technology for Use in Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography

A novel molecular imaging technology aimed at rapid diagnosis of cell death in organs such as the brain and heart has been licensed by The Medical College of Wisconsin to GE Healthcare. Under the license GE will further evaluate and develop the technology and will have an option to commercialize the technology. The technology, using imaging probes with a radiopharmaceutical compound, was invented by Ming Zhao, Ph.D., assistant professor of biophysics.
