San Diego Supercomputer Center Secures NSF Fund for LiDAR Topographic Data Facility

The San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC) at UC San Diego and Arizona State University have been awarded a $1.7 million grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to operate an internet-based national data facility for high-resolution topographic data acquired with LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) technology. The facility will also provide online processing tools and act as a community repository for information, software and training materials.

Picarro to Launch Picarro Combustion Module-Cavity Ring-Down Spectrometer at AGU Meeting

Picarro, Inc., the maker of the world's highest performing and easiest to use gas analyzers, today announced that it will debut the Picarro Combustion Module-Cavity Ring-Down Spectrometer (CM-CRDS), a unique portable, easy-to-use system for bulk 13C analysis using CRDS, at the AGU Meeting in San Francisco, Calif. CM-CRDS provides scientists and analytical labs with an integrated solution that will dramatically simplify carbon isotope analysis of various bulk samples, known as bulk stable isotope analysis (BSIA). These analyses are critical for solving problems in food safety that can have a significant impact in human health as well as for understanding important processes in the environment.

First Solar Delivered 1GW of PV Solar Modules in One Year

First Solar Inc. (Nasdaq: FSLR) today announced it has manufactured and shipped more than 1 gigawatt (GW) of its photovoltaic (PV) solar modules in 2009, becoming the first PV company to attain this production volume in a single year. One gigawatt of solar modules produces enough electricity to serve the needs of approximately 145,000 average American homes and saves roughly 1 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually.

Yingli Green Energy Signs Supply Deal with IBC SOLAR for PV Modules

Yingli Green Energy Holding Company Limited (NYSE: YGE) ("Yingli Green Energy" or the "Company"), one of the world's leading vertically integrated photovoltaic ("PV") product manufacturers, today announced it has signed a sales agreement ("the agreement") with IBC SOLAR AG ("IBC SOLAR"), one of the leading specialists in PV systems worldwide. Under the terms of the agreement, Yingli Green Energy has agreed to supply 130 MW of PV modules to IBC SOLAR from the first quarter through the fourth quarter of 2010.
