SPIE Astronomical Telescopes and Instrumentation 2012 Event to be Held in July

Mark Casali of European Southern Observatory and Kathryn Flanagan of Space Telescope Science Institute will chair the SPIE Astronomical Telescopes and Instrumentation 2012, a symposium of technologies that will feature over 2,200 presentations by experts from over 80 companies. This biannual event is scheduled from 1to 6 July at the Amsterdam RAI Convention Center.

International Research Team Studies Protein Crystals Using Short X-Ray Light Pulses

Tiny protein crystals were studied by a global research team using short X-ray light pulses from the 300 million dollar Linac Coherent Light Source, which is the world’s first X-ray free electron laser. The study shows the great potential of free-electron lasers for observing macromolecular structures from very small crystals when lit up with highly intense, ultra-short, free-electron X-ray pulses even though the crystals get destroyed during the process.

Australia to Participate in Hosting SKA Telescope

The International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research (ICRAR) researchers are pleased to know that Australia will share in hosting the Square Kilometre Array (SKA), which is the largest telescope ever built.
