Hexagon Metrology has introduced a new series of advanced shop floor coordinate measuring machines (CMMs). This novel product line is known as Brown & Sharpe 4.5.4 SF. Designed to withstand wear and tear during manufacturing processes, the SF series is upgraded and includes more advanced features than earlier models introduced globally.
The new CMM has minimal footprint of 52.2"x32.8"x79.5" and can be accommodated even through a standard door. Its interface, computer, and controller boxes have been combined into one self-contained unit with locking wheels, ensuring simple navigation across the shop floor. The 4.5.4 SF can consume standard 110/220 V outlets. The product is currently available in North America.
The 4.5.4 SF can be upgraded for inspection and measurement applications. Excellent temperature compensation and thermal isolation elements have been incorporated to ensure precision in changing shop floor environments. The specific- design and standard elastomeric dampers of CMM prevent the measuring platform from vibrations. In addition, the machine components experience only negligible friction, and are free of dust due to the Inverted high resolution Heidenhain scales, internal cable management and covered ways. CMM's overall durability owes to recirculating bearings and hardened linear drives. An optional active vibration dampening system is ideal for extreme environments.
The SF series is available with a metrology software called PC-DMIS. A touch screen enables PC-DMIS STI+ (single touch interface) that accelerates inspection program selection and launch. This software enables shop floor personnel to carry out simplified investigation of parts. The STI+ graphic procedure serves as a virtual guide for users. With STI+, the CMM can be effectively used instead of functional gaging on the shop floor.
