Provider of fiber-optic networking services, FiberLight has started building a 46-mile fiber-optic network from Culpeper to Charlottesville in Virginia.
The underground network will utilize improved fiber to attain low latency, and offers varied routes for organizations in Charlottesville who want high capacity, mission critical optical transport networks to Washington D.C.
The fiber-optic network will be linked to the multi-ringed network of FiberLight, connecting the enterprise and government corridor, covering greater Baltimore, Washington D.C., and Northern Virginia. FiberLight is developing the new network to meet the demands of enterprise and government customers who want high-bandwidth transport for data security and data replication purposes.
FiberLight’s EVP, Ben Edmond stated that the motive of the FiberLight project is to construct fiber-optic networks that optimize the impact on its customers and lessen the environmental effect on the surrounding localities. He added that the new fiber-optic network would pave the way for enormous growth in Virginia.
The Chief Development Officer of FiberLight, Ron Kormos commented that the new fiber-optic network would traverse through some rough terrains in the country. He added that the company is developing cross over pieces that will help in reducing the length and distance of the network segments for connecting back to Washington D.C.
