Veeco Introduces Latest 3D Automated Atomic Force Microscope

Veeco Instruments Inc., announced the introduction of its new InSight(TM) 3D Automated Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) Platform, the only metrology system available with the accuracy and precision required for non-destructive, high resolution three-dimensional (3D) measurements of critical 45nm and 32nm semiconductor features, with the speed to qualify as a true fab tool. Veeco's InSight 3DAFM was designed specifically to address Critical Dimension (CD), depth and chemical mechanical planarization (CMP) metrology in a production environment.

German Research Foundation Establishes Ten New Collaborative Research Centres

On 1 January 2008 the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) will establish ten new Collaborative Research Centres, which will receive a total of 74.4 million euros in funding over the next four years, as well as a lump sum of 20 percent to cover indirect costs incurred by the projects.

Researchers Receives Grant for the Development of Laser Interference Coatings

The Office of Naval Research has awarded a Colorado State University professor and her academic partners at the University of New Mexico, Stanford University and Jefferson Lab a five-year, $2.5 million Multidisciplinary Research Initiative grant to advance the fundamental understanding and development of interference coatings for high energy lasers.

World's First Ground-Layer Adaptive Optics System

A team from the Isaac Newton Group of Telescopes in collaboration with scientists from Durham University in the United Kingdom and from the University of Leiden and the ASTRON institute in The Netherlands have developed and commissioned at the William Herschel Telescope on the island of La Palma the first ground-layer adaptive optics system in the world that can be used for general astronomical observations.
