Leading IC Manufacturer Places Order for ESI TFOS Laser-Trimming Systems

Electro Scientific Industries, Inc., a leading provider of world-class photonic and laser systems for microengineering applications, today announced that it has received a substantial order from a leading North American analog integrated circuit (IC) manufacturer for its Model 2100 thin-film-on-silicon (TFOS) laser-trimming system.

The 2100 system is designed with ESI's patented 1.3 micron laser and can be integrated with the world's leading probers and testers to deliver the industry's best cost-of-ownership (CoO). Due to the magnitude of the multi-system order, and the two quarter backlog this represents, the ESI 2100 system shipments are expected to continue until April 2008.

Richa Anand, ESI TFOS product marketing manager, explained, "The 2100 platform was designed to be integrated into industry-leading prober and tester manufacturers to provide superior cost of ownership to its customers. ESI is committed to developing solutions that provide exceptional technology, flexibility and cost advantages to enable our global customers' success. We look forward to supporting this important customer in its efforts to meet the high demand for analog ICs and further expand its leadership in this growing market."

ESI's revolutionary approach to thin-film trimming backed by intellectual property (IP) is fueling the rapid worldwide adoption of the 2100 TFOS system. The Model 2100 provides superior accuracy and significant throughput advantages over competing solutions. ESI's advanced laser trimmer, the 2100 TFOS laser-trimming system, continues to enable major competitive wins and expand the company's presence in the analog-mixed signal market.

Model 2100 Features

The Model 2100 is available with ESI's patented 1.3-micron laser-trimming process. This advanced technology provides competitive advantages both in its single-pulse clean cutting of metal links and the elimination of laser-induced photo response for trimming active circuits. As a result, the final yield and the throughput are significantly improved. The 2100 offers a robust kinematic mount design for mating the trim head to the prober, thus providing superior accuracy and vibration resistance. In addition, a standalone prober operation option on the trim head provides maximum flexibility for manufacturers wrestling with changes in their production mix. ESI's Model 2100 provides IC manufacturers with greater accuracy and increased throughput in a single, low-cost solution.
