Compact Imaging Spectrometer for Mars Observes Comet Siding Spring

The Compact Imaging Spectrometer for Mars (CRISM) observed comet C/2013 A1 Siding Spring as the comet sped close to Mars on Oct. 19. CRISM recorded imaging data in 107 different wavelengths, showing the inner part of the cloud of dust, called the coma, surrounding the comet's nucleus.

Resolution Spectra Releases Ultra-High Resolution Miniature Spectrometer for Laser Characterization

The MICRO Spectra ultra-high resolution miniature spectrometer for laser characterization from Resolution Spectra Systems now offers a 10 measurements per second capability in order to optimize the visualization of wavelength and modes stability and to follow manual operating point search of lasers such as ECDL, VCSEL, DFB, YAG. Based on innovative SWIFTS technology, the small and easy-to-use device provides a resolution of ~0.01 nm in the 630- to 1083-nm range with a long-life factory calibration.

L-3 AOC Successfully Completes Coating of Large Optic for 6.5m MMT

L-3 Corporation’s Applied Optics Center (AOC) recently completed the coating of a large optic for the 6.5 m MMT. The MMT, located on the site of the Fred Lawrence Whipple Observatory, is one of the world’s largest astronomical telescopes, located on top of the 8,530-high Mount Hopkins, south of Tucson, Arizona.
