Researchers Convert Normal Atoms into Rydberg Atoms Through Laser Excitation

Rydberg atoms are highly sensitive atoms, as one electron is only loosely bound. Compared to „normal“ atoms which are one tenth of a nanometer in size those giant atoms are ~100 nanometers large. Due to their sensitivity they are very useful for quantum logic operations. As they can feel each other over distances up to several micrometers they can be used as conditional switches for quantum states, for example to connect nodes of a quantum network.

Solar Energy Initiatives Inks Contract for Construction of $4 Million Solar Project

Solar Energy Initiatives, Inc. Ferro Secures ODOD Grant to Develop Advanced Sealing Systems for Solar Cells

Ferro Electronic Materials, a leading supplier of materials for fabricating photovoltaic solar cells, has been awarded $1 million by the Ohio Department of Development (ODOD) to develop advanced durability sealing systems for solar cells. In this project, Ferro will engineer a vitreous frit system to provide reliable air-tight and water-tight seals for second- and third-generation thin-film solar cells. Ferro will collaborate with the Edison Welding Institute, StrateNexus Technologies, and The Ohio State University, all of Columbus, Ohio, in developing, testing and commercializing this new technology.
