Free Workshop on Electron Backscatter Diffraction Offered by College of Microscopy

The College of Microscopy, in partnership with electron microscope equipment companies JEOL and EDAX, provided a free workshop on electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD). Experts in the fields of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and EBSD sponsored the one-day event, providing information about the applications of these technologies for materials research and analysis. The College of Microscopy is the education division of The McCrone Group, Inc, a leader in materials analysis.

NEC Electronics Introduces New IPDs for Automotive Lighting

NEC Electronics (TOKYO: 6723) announced today, four new intelligent power devices (IPDs), the µPD166017, µPD166019, µPD166020 and uPD166021. Each high-side IPD is applicable for automotive lighting and other critical vehicle loads. Designed for on-board electronic control units (ECUs) typically used in head- and fog-light applications, the new devices, or power ICs, have an embedded power MOSFET for switching and a control chip for protection features in a single package. The IPDs strongly contribute to the improvement of the ECUs’ efficiency, which help designers to develop environmentally friendly automobiles.

LDK Solar to Acquire Best Solar's Crystalline Module Factory for $21.5 Million

LDK Solar Co., Ltd. (NYSE: LDK), a leading manufacturer of multicrystalline solar wafers, today announced that it has entered into an agreement to acquire the crystalline module manufacturing plant of Best Solar Co., Ltd. ("Best Solar"). Under the terms of the transaction LDK Solar will acquire Best Solar's crystalline module manufacturing plant at cash consideration of $21.5 million, representing the fair value of the assets acquired determined on an arms-length basis.
