Discus Dental, provider of quality dental equipment, announced its acquisition of a California-based company, ZAP Lasers. Discus will integrate ZAP’s R&D and manufacturing operations in its Southern California facilities. ZAP’s intellectual property and other assets were also acquired by Discus.
The new acquisition will allow Discus to expand its distribution network of soft tissue diode lasers in major countries such as Taiwan and Korea. In addition, the move will enable the company to have direct control of Zap’s cost reduction and R&D programs. The portfolio of Discus laser products comprises the OrthoLase, NV Microlaser, SoftLase Pro, HygieneLase and NV Ortho. The production and sales of all the products will be done under the company brand globally.
Discus Dental’s CEO, Steve Semmelmayer, stated that the acquisition is an important achievement for the company. They have acquired a reliable dental laser brand, a major intellectual property, exceptional manufacturing capabilities and a technological platform for novel products for the next few years, he said.
