Dell'Oro Group Publishes Quarterly Report on Fibre Channel Switch Market

According to the recent SAN Quarterly Report from Dell'Oro Group, a source for networking and telecommunication market research, the Fibre Channel Storage Area Networking market segments produced mixed results during the first quarter of 2010. Revenues from Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapter (HBA) were low while revenues from Fibre Channel switch were high.

The increase in switch revenues was due to a shift to costly modular or director-class switches. The revenues of 2010 are anticipated to show a significant growth, in spite of the HBA sales pull-back in 2010’s first quarter.

In the last quarter of 2009, the market produced strong results and a seasonal softness was expected in 2010’s first quarter. However, the switch market recorded an increase of more than 20% over the first quarter. Seamus Crehan, Dell'Oro Group vice president, expressed surprise over the strong results of the Fibre Channel switch.
