Optimum Optical Systems Acquired by Teledyne

Teledyne Scientific & Imaging, a unit of Teledyne Technologies, has acquired a California-based company called Optimum Optical Systems.

Optimum Optical Systems designs and produces customized lens and opto-mechanical systems for the visible, ultraviolet and infrared spectrums. The company’s products are mainly utilized in strategic military imaging systems that are found in defense platforms and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) systems.

Teledyne’s President, Chairman and CEO, Robert Mehrabian, stated that the new acquisition expands the company’s portfolio in infrared imaging equipment, and Optimum Optical System’s ability in optics and opto-mechanical assemblies are well-positioned between the camera products, detector subsystem and focal plane array of Teledyne Judson Technologies and Teledyne Imaging Sensors. Mehrabian further informed that the company has a minority stake in Optical Alchemy’s gimbal systems.

Teledyne offers advanced power generation systems, aerospace engines, engineered systems, communication products, instrumentation and electronic subsystems. The company’s operations are mainly based in Mexico, UK and the U.S.

Optimum Optical Systems will be renamed as Teledyne Optimum Optical Systems.
