Optical Society’s Website Receives Silver Honors Award

The Parents’ Choice Foundation has presented the Silver Honors award to the Optical Society’s (OSA) website called the OpticsForKids.org. The Parents’ Choice Foundation assists parents to make enlightened decisions about suitable products for their children.

The Silver Honors award is presented to those products that entertain as well as enable children to develop meticulous skills, standards and ethical attitudes. The products are also evaluated based on certain standards such as quality of education and the skill to bring both parents and children together for comprehensive learning experience.

The website, which is devoted for youth education, includes a wide range of activities and educational tools such as optical illusions, a career-assessment tool, an optics timeline and experiments, among others. The website also acts as a complete resource tool on optics and photonics and is useful for parents, educators and school students.

OSA’s Chief Executive officer, Elizabeth Rogan, stated that the website is a good educational tool where students can learn about important topics through entertaining and interactive programs. She added that the Silver Honors award is an honor for the company and its volunteers.

The website has received the Parents’ Choice Foundation award for the second time. A panel comprising educators, librarians, artists, parents and kids have reviewed the website for award eligibility. The panel’s review can be viewed on the Parents’ Choice Foundation’s website.
