PMC-Sierra has introduced a new pluggable Optical Network Terminal (ONT) reference design called the PAS65823A-KIT.
The pluggable ONT can be used to connect any type of Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) incorporating either sophisticated Passive Optical Network or conventional Small Form-Factor Pluggable (SFP) port.
Carriers and service providers can utilize the PAS65823A-KIT to improve their home and business components. Components such as access devices, routers and gateways can be upgraded to full GPON functionality using standard interfaces and without reconfiguring the software or hardware. The GPON functionality removes the need of deploying new Customer Premises Equipment while launching sophisticated fiber-based services. The PAS65823A-KIT eliminates the need for power supply and is supported by customary interfaces. It is based on PMC-Sierra’s GPON system-on-a-chip (SoC).
PMC-Sierra’s FTTH Division Co-General Manager and Vice President, Raphael Sankar, informed that service providers are increasingly looking out for advanced solutions that can connect current customers and equipment to PONs and help promote enhanced services quickly and efficiently. He added that PMC-Sierra’s PAS65823A-KIT allows original design manufacturers and original equipment manufacturers to add Passive Optical Network connectivity to existing clients’ devices easily and effectively.
The PAS65823A-KIT consumes 2.5 W of electricity and incorporates a host interface, an OMCI stack and an optical transceiver. The OMCI stack can be connected to any Small Form-Factor Pluggable port and can be used with existing optical line terminal (OLT) equipment. The OMCI stack eliminates the need for hardware and software modifications to the host equipment.
The PAS65823A-KIT will be displayed at Optinet China in Beijing from May 26 to 27, 2010.
