Alcatel-Lucent, fixed broadband service provider, has announced that its GPON-based optical network terminals (ONT) have been deployed across three continents. The 1 Gbps network allows service providers in North America, Europe and Asia to provide high-speed broadband access to business and residential customers.
Alcatel-Lucent has also expanded its GPON-based optical network terminal (ONT) portfolio by launching five new models. The GPON ONT models support the delivery of 1 Gbps broadband services. The expanded GPON ONT portfolio allows service providers to increase the network speeds to meet customers’ demand for high-bandwidth services.
The new ONT models include the multi-dwelling unit ONT, the mini ONT and the Home Phoneline Networking Alliance (HPNA)-certified ONT.
The multi-dwelling unit ONT, which contains 16 VDSL2 ports, is suitable for deploying fiber cable in existing multi-dwelling units. The Home Phoneline Networking Alliance-certified ONT supports the delivery of 1 Gbps services via two gigabit Ethernet ports. The HPNA also speeds up the installation of fiber-to-the-home services. The mini ONT is one of the smallest optical network terminals available in the market.
Service providers such as ZON Multimedia in Portugal, Hong Kong Broadband Network, Tenn in the U.S., and EPB in Chattanooga utilize Alcatel-Lucent's GPON equipment to provide next-generation fixed broadband services.
