Coherent Inc. (Santa Clara, CA) (Nasdaq: COHR) has expanded their Genesis™ family of long-life visible lasers by introducing the MX-Series, which offers end-user functionality and is fully CDRH compliant.
Based on Coherent’s unique optically pumped semiconductor laser (OPSL) technology, existing Genesis series lasers are available with wavelengths ranging from 355 nm to 639 nm. The new Genesis MX series is being initially launched at 532 nm (powers up to 8 Watts) and 577 nm (powers up to 5 Watts), with other popular Genesis wavelengths to shortly follow. All wavelengths are available with a choice of TEM00 or multimode output.
Prior to the introduction of the MX-Series, Genesis lasers were solely available in an OEM format for integration within instrumentation. The new MX format includes a fully packaged power supply and laser head, complete with front panel interface, shutter and external interlock control. The system also comes with the choice of an air or water-cooled heatsink. All Genesis lasers, including the new MX models, are backed by a 1 year/5,000 hour warranty.
Applications for Genesis MX lasers are principally in biomedicine. Key examples are flow cytometry, DNA sequencing and confocal microscopy. All these fluorescence-based techniques will benefit from the availability of high power from Genesis MX-series, which translates into increased throughput, and from the availability of multiple wavelengths enabling simultaneous tracking of several fluorophores. Other applications are in research in various branches of physics and chemistry.
