OSA to Debut New Biomedical Optics Express Journal

The Optical Society (OSA) today announced the editorial board members and feature issue line-up for its newest journal, Biomedical Optics Express, which is now open for submissions.

The journal will debut this fall with a series of issues highlighting topic areas featured at the 2010 OSA Biomedical Optics Topical Meeting, held recently in Miami. The editorial board is comprised of leading biomedical optics and photonics researchers from around the world. A list of board members and feature issue topics appears below.

The associate editors are recognized active research leaders who will set the editorial tone for the journal by taking primary responsibility for timely peer review of manuscripts submitted to the journal. The advisory editors are international scholars with a sustained history of major contributions to biomedical optics, who will provide guidance and support in the development and operations of the new journal.

“Biomedical Optics Express is well-positioned to serve the research community under the leadership of the distinguished and enthusiastic editorial board,” said Joseph A. Izatt, editor-in-chief of the new journal. “The quality of the board underscores the strong support the new journal is already receiving from prominent leaders in the biomedical optics field.”

The new journal is now accepting both regular submissions and feature issue submissions, with a deadline of June 1 for feature issue submissions. Announced earlier this year, Biomedical Optics Express will launch this fall and become OSA’s principal outlet for serving the biomedical optics community with rapid, open-access publication of content related to optics, photonics and imaging in the life sciences. Additional features of particular interest to biomedical authors will include interactive science publishing (ISP) capability for online visualization of large datasets, and automated submission of published articles to PubMed Central to assist authors funded by the US National Institutes of Health in complying with federal open-access requirements. As a special benefit to authors, publication charges will be waived for submissions received within the first year.
