Andor Technology plc (Andor), a world leader in Scientific Imaging, Spectroscopy Solutions and Microscopy Systems, is pleased to announce that on 23 December 2009 it has acquired Bitplane AG based in Zurich, Switzerland.
Bitplane is the world’s leading interactive microscopy image analysis software company specializing in medical and life sciences. Through constant innovation and a clear focus on 3D & 4D imaging, Bitplane actively shapes the way scientists process microscope imagery. Imaris, Bitplane’s core software platform, delivers industry-leading functionality for visualization and analysis of 3D and 4D microscopy datasets. Combining speed, precision and ease-of-use, Imaris provides powerful features for processing multi-dimensional datasets from a few megabytes to hundreds of gigabytes in size. Advanced analysis tools address complex problems ranging from spatial statistics, morphology and interconnectivity to tracking cell movements in living organisms.
The existing management and employees will remain with the business which will continue to trade as Bitplane following completion.
Commenting on the Acquisition, Conor Walsh, Chief Executive, said: “Bitplane is a world leader in 3D and 4D image analysis software and complements Andor’s existing business, especially the rapidly growing systems division. Bitplane is cash generative, has a history of strong revenue growth and will be immediately earnings enhancing. We are delighted Marius and his team will stay with the business and we are excited about the further growth opportunities this acquisition will deliver.”
Dr Marius Messerli, founder of Bitplane added: “We are delighted to be joining Andor. We believe that the market for advanced image processing is underexploited and as part of a larger organization Andor brings the capacity and systems knowledge to further develop both our customer base and our technology roadmap.”
