GigE Vision Interface Support Added To IDS Industrial Camera Range For Maximum Versatility

IDS (Imaging Development Systems GmbH) has announced that the industry-standard GigE Vision interface is available for its second-generation GigE uEye CP and GigE uEye FA series of industrial cameras. IDS is the only camera manufacturer to offer users the choice between the GigE Vision standard and the proprietary IDS Software Suite depending on the camera functionality most important to them. The IDS Software Suite allows users to fully exploit many of the useful additional functions and features provided by the latest generation of image sensors that are not currently supported by the industry standards.

GigE Vision is a global interface standard for cameras made by all manufacturers, and is based on the Gigabit Ethernet communication protocol. It is particularly popular thanks to its ability to transmit images over distances up to 100 metres. Using this standard, the IDS cameras are compatible with all machine vision software, and are ready for use immediately without software development kits or special drivers.

The IDS Software Suite for Windows, Linux and Linux Embedded provides the same functionality for all IDS USB 2.0, USB 3.0 and GigE cameras including mixed operation and switching between the different camera types without changing a single line of program code. This camera software provides added flexibility for users since it supports many useful features of modern sensors, such as long exposure, multi integration mode, line mode, higher pixel rate and many more.

Originally developed in 1997, the IDS Software Suite is downward compatible and provides remote update capability. As all necessary drivers are loaded to the camera when it is initially connected, the functionality of any cameras already installed is quickly and easily extended through software updates.

Dozens of example programs in various programming languages, including C, C++, C# and Visual Basic, make it easy to quickly integrate IDS cameras into user applications using the explanatory source code. The uEye interfaces support the most popular machine vision libraries, such as HALCON, LabView, NeuroCheck and many more.

This versatility is not restricted to the GigE Vision interface. IDS can also provide the USB3 Vision standard for selected USB3 cameras as an alternative to the IDS Software Suite.
