Today Silver Spring Networks, Inc., a leading networking platform and solutions provider for smart energy networks, announced that the Silver Spring smart street lights solution was named an Edison Awards finalist in the Energy & Sustainability category.
Silver Spring’s smart street lights solution enables lighting network operators to improve energy efficiency, lower operational costs, enable remote lighting management and control, and improve citizen safety. The solution also allows municipalities to leverage a smart street lights network canopy to deploy additional Smart City applications over time, lowering long-term costs and accelerating speed of deployment for new services.

Silver Spring has been selected for smart street light and Smart City programs in iconic cities such as Paris and Copenhagen. In Paris, Silver Spring has been selected for an advanced street lighting and traffic controls program as the city seeks to reduce its public lighting energy consumption by 30% over the next 10 years. Copenhagen, often referred to as the world’s most sustainable city, is looking to Silver Spring to deploy a citywide canopy network to connect more than 20,000 street lights.
The Edison Awards have recognized and honored some of the most innovative products and business leaders in the world and is among the most prestigious accolades honoring excellence in new product and service development, marketing, design and innovation. The 2014 Edison Award winners will be named on April 30.
