Lake Nona was constituted in the late 1980s near the Orlando international airport and has developed consistently to become an avant garde neighborhood. Due to recent intensifying of the development in the area, Lake Nona adopted power-saving street lighting.
The Southeast Orlando streets of the 7000 acre neighbourhood were adorned with GE Lighting’s Evolve LED contemporary twin-support post-top and LED roadway fixtures.
Lake Nova designers collaborated with GE Lighting engineers to put together ornamental light fixtures that would blend with the neighborhood’s modern architecture. The chosen fixtures are the same GE LED, power-saving, post-top fixtures; only the base and pole were a special concept for Lake Nona.
The earlier proposed 175-W metal halide setup has been replaced with over 370 GE Evolve 86-W LED fittings, which will save the neighborhood about $18,000 annually, using 170,000 lesser kWhs. Orlando Utilities Commission’s (OUC) Convenient Lighting Program, which brings together pole and luminaire buying, installation, design, expertise, upkeep, and power costs into one point of contact has helped in Lake Nona’s decision. GE’s LED Evolve modern post-top street lighting also diminished the glare thrown usually on lawns or homes when traditional street lights were used.
GE’s Evolve LED road fixtures, which used 130 W each, saved 83,000 kWhs yearly or close to $9000. The 134 fittings have improved reflective optics to more competently direct light where required. A special heat sink design extended LED life. GE’s ecomagination (SM) and healthymagination solutions are already being displayed at hospitals and homes. Compact fluorescent (CFL) lights and other Energy Star-corroborated appliances including refrigeration, laundry and water heater units are some of GE’s energy-efficient products now being used in Lake Nona homes.
