Laser-Assisted Gum Treatment Available at Montes’ Practice

Montes Periodontics and Implant Dentistry declared that a new innovative ‘LANAP’ treatment for periodontal disease has been introduced in the facility. LANAP is a novel laser gum treatment, effective for eliminating diseased tissue and harmful bacteria from the gum.

Cumming Periodontist Dr. Shelly Montes stated that LANAP treatment is powerful for those affected with early as well as advanced stages of gum disease. Dr. Montes hopes making the patients aware of this alternative surgery for gum disease.

This novel treatment option favors cumming gum disease patients who are not comfortable with surgical procedures. Laser-Assisted New Attachment Procedure (LANAP) is an FDA-approved treatment that destroys bacteria and disease tissue within the gums, using laser. The bacteria and diseased tissue will get vaporized as a result of laser radiation. The surface plaque will then be incised from the tooth using an ultrasonic scaler and special hand instruments.

LANAP is a suitable treatment for patients suffering from Stage II, III or IV gum disease. These patients have gum pockets measuring over 5mm.

The eligibility requirement for a Periodontist to perform LANAP treatment involves completion of a comprehensive training program for a period of one year. Following this feat, the dentist will receive a conditional license for performing these procedures.

Dr. Montes is fully certified and participates in continuing education courses, and also serves as a cosmetic and implant dentist, offering treatments like sedation dentistry, gum graft, cosmetic periodontal procedures and dental implants.
