Olmec Offers New Modular Vision User Interface

Olmec-UK, a vision system integrator, has developed a novel, modular user-friendly interface through which engineers can make modification to any Olmec production-line vision system without requiring any vision expertise.

The VP3 user interface is a versatile platform that has been designed to operate in the large touchscreen-based Windows 7 environment. It features modules for 1D and 2D code reading, blister pack inspection, human readable codes, colour verification, defect inspection, part presence, and high precision gauging and measurement.

The VP3 interface includes large, user-friendly buttons for system configuration, statistics, and set-up serving to be a clear ‘pass or fail’ result indicator. Simple drop-down boxes with an auto-complete function will allow recipe selection from multiple recipes. The multi-level security within the interface enables meeting industry standards like CFR21 Pt II requirements for the pharmaceutical and medical industries. By restricting access to setting of parameters like defect sizes, thresholds, and delay time to reject mechanism will ensure stable operation for the basic user without altering any major operating conditions.

An option is available to save images of good as well as failed products and components that can be reviewed simultaneously while carrying out constant measurement in the background. Users can control the presentation of statistics like total number of good or failed products, and the system can also be programmed for remote diagnostics.

With this flexible approach to the user interface, the VP3 interface can be ideally adopted with all Olmec’s custom-designed vision solutions. It can function with an extensive array of color or monochrome cameras to deliver superior dynamic range, where camera frame rate or resolution does not impede its excellent operation.
