BIOLASE Technology, producer and distributor of dental lasers, recently declared the launch BIOLASE's advanced Total Diode Solution, the EPIC 10.
During the California Dental Association's annual tradeshow, Anaheim 2012, the EPIC 10 was demonstrated from May 3-5 at Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, CA, besides its participation in other dental industry events. Awaiting 510 k clearance from the Food and Drug Administration, EPIC 10 is currently unavailable for commercialization in the U.S.
The shortest pulse present in the existing market scenario is available with BIOLASE's next-generation diode soft-tissue laser. Short pulses are capable of providing cleaner cuts, where the tissues will experience only minimal thermal damage. The incorporated battery found in EPIC 10 will ensure consistent, full day operation. In addition, it also functions as a design platform where the construction of upgrade versions is feasible using varied combinations of laser wavelengths.
The EPIC 10 consists of 940 nm wavelength, featuring 10 W of real power and an intuitive graphical touchscreen with a specific procedure. BIOLASE's proprietary ComfortPulse control technology forms the basis of EPIC 10. It prevents tissue damage, in addition to eliminating painful heat buildup at the surgical site. It ensures increased comfort for the patients during the procedure.
EPIC 10 and its associated efficacy claims are still waiting for FDA clearance. FDA’s approval for the device however remains uncertain.
