BIOLASE Receives New Patents Related to Hard Tissue Laser Technology

A manufacturer and distributor of dental lasers and dental imaging equipment, BIOLASE Technology has declared that the US Patent and Trademark Office have released three BIOLASE patents. The patents emphasise novel and core features of the proprietary Er:YAG and Er,Cr:YSGG hard tissue laser technology.

Patent# 7,970,027 was awarded for Electromagnetic Energy Distributions for Electromagnetically Induced Mechanical Cutting. The claims of this patent covers ongoing construction of products incorporating the proprietary Waterlase Er,Cr:YSGG technology accepted by dental professionals as a painless surgical instrument designed for soft and hard tissue.

Patent #7,957,440 is titled Dual Pulse-Width Medical Laser and patent# 7,970,030 is titled Dual Pulse-Width Medical Laser with Presets. These patents add strength to the intellectual property associated with laser pulse alterations and related fluid spray features, thereby providing dual cutting benefits such as cutting optimally while bleeding is controlled for a wide range of biological tissues.

Biolase currently owns 148 diversified patents globally and the total number of patents as well as patent-pending applications add up to 287.

The Chairman and CEO of Biolase, Federico Pignatelli stated that the new patents are a comprehensive effort than previous efforts and enable extension of their IP coverage to the year 2026.
