SWS’s SiMOST Platform Being Launched for Upgrading Integrated Optical Systems

Si-Ware Systems (SWS) has declared the launch of its new proprietary platform. This novel platform facilitates the manipulation of single-chip optical systems.

SiMOST is an absolute platform that plays a key role in the manufacture of monolithic optical systems. It utilizes MEMS components. Using deep reactive ion etching (DRIE), the multiple optical MEMS structures are designed and fixed on SOI wafers. This is followed by wafer level packaging of structures and further altered to create a one-chip optical system.

With SiMOST platform, alignment free optics can be created. The SiMOST optical components enable lithographic alignment on-chip. SiMOST’s monolithic optical solution is more beneficial with its reliability and efficiency. Cost-effective and increased production is facilitated with batch processing and mass production on semiconductor wafers. Its on-chip components serve to be a strong and powerful system, capable of withstanding vibration and shock. In addition, its compact size enhances its significance, surpassing the other discrete optical systems.

SiMOST platform has been further upgraded with the company’s building blocks enabling the designers to create advanced optical systems. MEMS components include long travel range micro-actuators and micro-motors. Optical components feature optical filters, flat, cylindrical and spherical collimating mirrors, moving corner cube reflectors and wide bandwidth beamsplitters.

This novel SiMOST solution is being utilized for the company’s upcoming outstanding developments such as a swept laser source and fully monolithic FT-IR spectrometer.

SWS’s ASIC solutions division with its control circuits and interfacing complements the SiMOST solution. The applications of ASIC include data processing, capacitive sensing, MEMS control, current, and voltage and data conversion facilitated through ADC/DAC.
