Silver Star Telephone Company, a two-time winner of Broadband Stimulus awards, has chosen Calix’s EXA Powered E7 Ethernet Services Access Platform (ESAP). Silver Star intends to bring sophisticated broadband services to the community in southern Idaho and northern Wyoming.
The two infrastructure projects will improve the broadband network services for around 12,000 premises, including community anchor institutions, businesses and residences across rural communities and 16 counties in the region. Silver Star would be utilizing Calix’s modular E7-2 ESAP, E7-20 multi-terabit ESAP and 700GE optical network terminals (ONTs) for providing internet protocol television (IPTV), voice services, and data services with high speeds of up to 1 Gbps, and 10 Gbps transport services. The National Telecommunications and Information Administration has awarded grants totaling nearly $13.6 million under the Broadband Technology Opportunities Program for the infrastructure projects.
Calix E7-20 multi-terabit ESAP is a low latency, high capacity, all-fiber 2 Tbps access concentrator for video streaming. It can symmetrically deliver fully redundant, non-blocking throughput of 100 Gbps to all its universal line card slots.
Silver Star is to install fiber optic cables for 127 miles for providing the services 1900 businesses, 10,200 households and community anchor institutions. The E7 ESAPs would use Active Ethernet, point-to-point gigabit Ethernet technologies, gigabit passive optical network and 10 gigabit Ethernet for delivering robust, advanced data, voice and IPTV services. Silver Star would also be utilizing the Calix Management System for provisioning and managing the broadband services.
