Richman Animal Clinic, a veterinary hospital in Richmond Heights, recently purchased a class IV laser therapy machine for treating pets suffering from pain. This is the first pet hospital near Lyndhurst in northeastern Ohio to provide such a laser therapy for pets.
Many studies have proved that laser therapy provides relief from various injuries to both in humans as well as in animals. The treatment is commonly used in animals to relieve hot spots, surgical wounds, anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tears, back and joint pain, sprains, and disc problems.
Dr. Jeffery A Richman, owner and veterinarian of Richman Animal Clinic, explained that the class IV laser can break through deeper into damaged tissues than a class III laser. It also cures larger tissue areas. The blood circulation of the injury site increases when laser light is directed at it. The concentration of light releases endorphins called natural pain killers from the tissues.
Reports stated that laser therapy reduces swelling and stimulates Adenosine Tri-Phosphate (ATP) hormone secretion at the injury site, which heals three to four times faster than the normal treatment. The laser provides healing at the cellular level, there by quickening the wound healing process that is impossible in traditional treatments and based on animal’s injury or condition the laser treatments can either be stable or rhythmic.
According to Dr. Richman, 50% of animals undergoing laser treatment showed signs of relief after the first treatment. 70 to 80% responded well after two settings, 90% of pets showed significant improvement with three or four treatments.
