Bern Optics, Inc. today announced the availability of custom optical elements with dimensions as small as 0.20 mm. They can be custom engineered, ground and polished to micron tolerances in a wide variety of configurations, including lenses, prisms, axicons, filters, windows, domes, and mirrors, as well as special components with combinations of plano, spherical and cylindrical surfaces.
These precision custom optical parts are ideal for use in analytical and medical instruments where small size is key.
Created from a variety of optical and filter glasses, these tiny elements – some as small as a grain of salt – can be produced to submillimeter dimensions, in production or prototype quantities, with or without specialized coatings, as completely unique pieces or modified catalog items, to meet the specific requirements of the application. As a full-service optics manufacturer, Bern Optics can also provide secondary assembly of components like doublets and triplets, multielement prisms, mounting of optics in cells, and other custom assemblies.
Founded in 1989 by Bernd Gottschalk, Bern Optics, Inc. is fully integrated to convert raw glass into highly accurate, exotically coated optical components, from prototype to volume production. As one of the premier independent manufacturers of precision optics, the company has consistently remained in the forefront of micro-miniature and submillimeter optics manufacture and fabrication. The company specializes in the production of singlet lenses (with combinations of plano, concave or convex surfaces), achromats, windows, mirrors, prisms, apertures, and balls.
