The City of Tucson officials are planning to install Cooper Lighting’s LED luminaires to save substantial amount of energy, as energy-inefficient low pressure sodium (LPS) luminaires use high energy and require high maintenance costs Under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funded project, the city substituted nearly 600 lighting fixtures with Cooper Lighting's Streetworks OVH LED Cobrahead lights.
The benefits offered by Cooper Lighting's OVH LED Cobrahead luminaires are numerous. The city officials opted for these luminaires as a result of their design, quality and cost efficiency.
The total amount that was sanctioned for this project was approximately $425,000. Currently, the conversion to LED lights has saved Tucson nearly $3,000 per month. Officials predict a minimum of $30,000 in savings for 2011.
With an energy savings of 30% to 75% over other normal H.I.D sources, the neighbourhood street lighting in Tucson will now receive high optical performance and flexibility for roadway applications. Cooper's modular LightBAR technology, which is yet to receive patent, supplies even illumination to pathways, roadways and parking spaces.
