The latest offering from Farnell is a 3.5x4” double layer PC board called the EVIX-10 designed specifically for evaluation of IXYS’ solar cell product, the XOB17-12×1 SolarBIT.
SolarBITs are efficient, monocrystalline coated solar cells. Available in reel and tape packages, they can be place mounted or can be picked automatically. They have reflow soldered packages, have an efficiency of 17% and can be used even when light conditions are not favorable.
Using the EVIX-10, each SolarBIT can be linked to a 6-pin header. All 10 SolarBITs can be arranged into various parallel/series combinations using push-on stunts. When all the SolarBITs are connected in a parallel way, a maximum current of 0.5 V at 400 mA can be achieved. Similarly when connected in a series, an output of 0.5 V at 400 mA can be achieved.
Enabling increased run time and battery life on a small footprint, the SolarBITs can be used in a wide range of products. Made with XOD17 solar cell dies, they are available in different current and voltage configurations and are suitable for charging handheld or battery powered products such as cameras, mobile phones, MP3 players, PDAs and toys, the IXOLAR SolarBITs can also be used for portable instrumentation, wireless sensors and emergency backup batteries. IXOLAR products can be used in outdoor and indoor applications.
