Young Optics Plans to Improve Brightness of Built-in Pico Projector Modules

Young Optics, producer of optical components and modules, has declared that it intends to enhance the pico projector’s luminous brightness to 20 lm/W in 2011. According to market reports, the market for worldwide pico projector, including white-box and entry-level toys, is estimated to attain three to five million units in 2011.

Young Optics stated that for its built-in pico projector, it would first concentrate on the digital video (DV) industry. The company anticipates an increasing demand in the high-end DV segment since consumers’ purchasing power has become higher.

The built-in pico projectors’ primary markets will be the DSCs and DVs, while the handset sector is still restricted by brightness, price, product size and power. According to market reports, the built-in pico projectors’ production cost should be reduced to less than 10% to boost the market.

According to Young Optics, the size of the built-in pico projectors with 10 lm/W brightness should be less than 5 cc and the cost should be less than $30.
