EOS Exhibits Direct Metal Laser-Sintering System at AAOS Meeting

Developer of laser sintering solutions, EOS has introduced a working direct metal laser-sintering system (DMLS) with various metal and plastic medical products.

The company showcased the device at the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) meeting that was held at the San Diego Convention Center.

EOS exhibited various parts such as prototype stainless steel surgical tools, bone rasp samples, and customized surgical drill guides. The metal and plastic laser-sintering systems enable medical designers to customize parts for patients and doctors by using the 3D data produced by CAD, CT, and MRI. The devices can be combined with data preparation software to generate porous surfaces and complex geometries for better lightweight structures and to provide improved patient comfort.

The company’s laser-sintering systems will work in tandem with Within Technologies’ FEA/CAD optimization software to generate lightweight parts such as lattice structures.
