Canon Australia recently declared that it has been designing a new digital cinema camera that can record 4K-resolution video. In order to achieve higher levels of imaging performance, this development has been carried out.
The interchangeable-lens EOS C500/EOS C500 PL will enable 4K up to 4,096x2,160 pixels video capture with RAW output to attain maximum image quality. This new innovation will benefit Hollywood and the television production and motion picture industry.
Following the release of Canon Cinema EOS System in November 2011, the company launched the EOS C300 digital cinema camera in January 2012. This novel offering has been proven for excellent video quality performance, exceptional expandability, mobility, and durability.
The high-resolution production market experts require filmmaking tools that provide higher levels of video image quality. Canon is progressing by developing a new interchangeable-lens digital cinema camera that will be offered in two models such as the EOS C500 PL and the EOS C500 that support industry-standard PL lenses and an array of interchangeable EF lenses and EF cinema lenses, respectively.
The EOS C500/EOS C500 PL supports 4K-resolution video capture and RAW data output, giving rise to outstanding video results with high quality. Furthermore, a 12-bit RGB 4:4:4 signal will be incorporated in 2K (2,048x1,080 pixels) video output that generates rich color expression and compatible with chroma key compositing. The EOS C500/EOS C500 PL is expected to be released during 2012.
A prototype of the EOS C500/C500 PL digital cinema camera will be exhibited at NAB Show 2012, in Las Vegas, U.S.A, between April 16 and 19, 2012.
While Canon is planning to carry out a swift launch of the EOS C500/C500 PL, it will continue to upgrade the Cinema EOS System product line-up, marking several milestones in the cinematic field.
