Suniva’s Next-Generation Solar Cells Achieve Over 19% Conversion Efficiency

Manufacturer of monocrystalline silicon solar cells, Suniva announced that it has introduced a new range of solar cells that have conversion efficiencies of over 19%.

The ARTisun Select solar cells attain high conversion efficiencies by utilizing a single-sided emitter and other innovations on the front part of the solar cell.

Suniva’s processing capabilities and intellectual property, integrated with the ion implantation technology, allows the company to launch ARTisun Select into the market. Suniva also simplified its solar cell production procedure by eradicating two steps. This allowed the company to manufacture the solar cells cost-effectively. Suniva collaborated with Varian Semiconductor Equipment Associates to develop the ion implantation technology.

Suniva’s Chief Technical Officer, Dr. Ajeet Rohatgi stated that the ion implantation technology offers an affordable solution to develop solar cells without adding difficult processes. He added that the company’s manufacturing process would allow it to attain 20% efficiencies in third generation solar cells on n-type wafer.
