Epistar, Delta Electronics to Establish LED JV in Southern China

Epistar and Delta Electronics will start a joint venture company called Guangzhou Crystalrich Lighting that will manufacture LED epitaxial chips and wafers in Southern China. The production of LED epitaxial solutions will commence in 2012.

Guangzhou Crystalrich Lighting will install 30 units of MOCVD sets as part of the initial manufacturing capacity. In addition, the joint venture will have a China-based consumer electronics vendor, Skyworth, as a third shareholder to utilize the Chinese LED backlight market for LCD televisions.

Delta manufactures LED lighting solutions for own-brand sale and OEM clients. The company plans to deliver 5 to 8 million LED lighting units in 2011. Delta will procure the supply of LED chips and expand its business from LED lighting to backlights by the upstream investment in Guangzhou Crystalrich Lighting.
