SELEX Galileo to Deliver High-Energy Lasers for Defense Applications

Finmeccanica’s subsidiary, SELEX Galileo has secured over €33 million worth of contracts to deliver 196 high-energy lasers that will fixed in prime contractor targeting systems in the U.S.

The lasers will be used as designators and rangefinders by battle aircraft team to accurately target the opponent by staying in the outside range of destructive fire.

SELEX Galileo runs a laser centre of excellence in Edinburgh. It has traded over 4,500 lasers for programmes in more than 25 countries. Laser integration has been completed on about 40 platforms across sea, air and land. The Edinburgh facility has about 2,000 employees and offers laser technologies and products such as AESA radar to the Scottish defense market.

SELEX Galileo contributes 15% of its revenues in R&D and has developed a plan to develop vital technologies with focus on microelectronics and laser production.
