GAO Tek Releases Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer with TFT LCD Screen

Developer of telecommunication testers, GAO Tek has introduced a new handheld optical time-domain reflectometer (OTDR) that features a TFT LCD screen. The 6416 OTDR is suitable for the maintenance, construction and manufacture of fiber optic communication systems.

The optical time-domain reflectometer locates and determines optical fiber faults as well as its physical characteristics such as splice loss, transmission and length. In addition, it conducts visible fault location (VFL) and provides a distance range of up to 256 km with 800 traces memory capacity.

The OTDR has an operating time of above 10 h on a single charge, 65535 sampling points, 0.25 m high resolution and a 1.6 m short event dead zone. It provides a precision of ±20 nm with optional wavelengths such as 1490, 1625, 1550 and 1310 nm. In addition, the reflectometer offers USB interfaces that support direct cable download to a PC through included software as well as USB stick. For file management applications, the optical time-domain reflectometer supports Bellcore GR196 file format.
