CFU and Clearfield Deploy FTTp Services in Iowa

Cedar Falls Utilities (CFU) has announced that a major Fiber to the Premises (FTTp) installation will help residents and businesses in the Iowa area to gain access to high-definition television and high-speed internet services.

Clearfield, provider of FieldSmart fiber management platform, will assist CFU in the Passive Optical Network (PON) project via its fiber management products. The fiber management products include FieldSmart Fiber Crossover Distribution System 288 Patch and Splice Ribbon Panels in the central office and the FieldSmart Fiber Scalability Center 288 PON Cabinets in the field. Clearfield’s fiber management components increase system density and  decrease fiber deployment costs.

Over 15,000 houses will be covered by the FTTp deployment. Construction of the FTTp installation was started in August 2010 and is estimated to finish by 2012.

CFU’s Communications Services Manager, David Schilling stated that the company had earlier utilized Clearfield’s services to deploy BPON products in certain Greenfield regions of Cedar Falls.
