Block Nominated as Finalist in 2010 Prism Awards for Photonics Innovation

Manufacturer of Quantum Cascade laser-based spectrometers, Block Engineering announced that it has been named as a finalist in this year’s Prism Awards for Photonics Innovation. The LaserScan spectrometer helped the company to position itself as a finalist in the Prism Defense and Security group.

LaserScan Spectrometer

The mid-infrared LaserScan spectrometer identifies substances on surfaces from a minimum distance of 6” to a maximum of 2 ft. The LaserScan spectrometer is utilized for identifying toxic industrial chemicals, nontraditional and traditional chemical agents and explosive materials.

Block’s Chief Executive Officer, Petros Kotidis stated that the company is delighted to be nominated as the Prism Awards Finalist.

Block’s Vice-President of Marketing and Business Development, Adam Erlich stated that the LaserScan spectrometer has the ability to analyze samples with high sensitivity by utilizing infrared spectroscopy. He added that the LaserScan is not only useful for defense and security applications, but can also be used in other applications where material analysis is required.
