Zayo Expands Fiber-Optic Network in Minnesota

Zayo, telecom service provider, has announced that is will expand its fiber-optic network in five Minnesota regions.

The company will also add time-division multiplexing (TDM) and Ethernet services to nearly 350 wireless sites.

Dan Caruso, Chief Executive of Zayo, stated that the new fiber-optic network would offer depth to the company’s network in the St. Paul-Minneapolis metropolitan region. The company’s network in Minnesota would increase to 1700 miles after the expansion project, Caruso said.

TDM occurs when two or more signals are transmitted concurrently as sub-channels in a single communication channel.

Zayo has recently acquired American Fiber Systems for $114.5 million. The latter company had assets in the Minneapolis region.

Caruso added that Zayo’s existing Minnesota fiber-optic network, the stimulus award, and American Fiber Systems acquisition would allow the company to have an extensive network to meet the increasing bandwidth and communication needs across the state.
