Acuity Brands, provider of lighting products, and Universal Display are working under a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase III Xlerator grant, valued at $2 million, to manufacture a color-tunable and energy-efficient phosphorescent OLED lighting system. The purpose of the alliance is to speed up the introduction of OLED lighting solution for institutional and commercial applications.
Universal Display has joined with Acuity Brands to develop and introduce the PHOLED lighting solutions during the Phase III Xlerator Program. Acuity Brands will fabricate the lighting system prototypes that are targeted for commercial spaces such as healthcare, retail and office buildings. The lighting solution will provide white light, which can be tuned across a series of color temperatures by utilizing Universal Display’s high-efficiency PHOLED panels. The potential to alter white light’s color in one OLED panel adds refinement and versatility to light settings.
Acuity Brands’ President, Vernon J. Nagel stated that the collaboration with Universal Display would facilitate in commercializing sophisticated technologies such as OLEDs.
President of Universal Display, Steven V. Abramson commented that the partnership with Acuity Brands will enable the company to speed up the development of PHOLED lighting solutions.
