VTN to Deploy Ciena’s 40G Optical Networking System

Ciena announced that Vietnam Telecoms National (VTN), a telecommunication operator in Vietnam, will install a 40 G optical networking system to support the increasing demands on its optical backbone. Upgrading the network will allow operators to provide a portfolio of sophisticated service offerings and develop their subscriber base in all market sections.

VTN needed a seamless and cost-efficient upgrade to the present core infrastructure that presently depends on 10 G links. VTN chose Ciena’s 40 G solution because of its distinct electronic dispersion compensation technology that enables it to enhance the present 10 G national backbone to 40 G by simply adding transponder cards. The solution offers investment protection because it can conveniently scale to 100 G when the capacity demands grow.

The VTN fiber-optic network is upgraded using Ciena’s ActivFlex 6500 Packet-Optical Platform and ActivSpan Common Photonic Layer with 40/100 G optics. The 100 and 40 G solutions from Ciena are based on certain technologies such as electronic digital signal processing procedures, Dual Polarization Quadrature Phase Shift Keying modulation, and coherent detection. Ciena’s 40/100 G coherent solutions deliver considerable performance and provide OPEX and CAPEX advantages for submarine and terrestrial applications.
