Telmex Chile will construct a new optical network with the help of a local partner, Raylex. The network will ensure that the telecommunications services are reliable. The network will comprise the Tellabs 7100 Nano optical transport system and the Tellabs 7100 optical transport system.
The optical network, based on the DWDM ROADM technology, will allow Telmex to provide more bandwidth to consumers with a downtime of less than one minute per year. In addition, the network will enable Telmex to provide new and quick services for its business and residential customers. The company will also be able to assign bandwidth on demand during high traffic times.
The Tellabs optical solution will offer advanced reroute capabilities to assure service despite multiple fiber cuts. The optical directionless capabilities and the control plane technology from Tellabs will provide the intelligence required to facilitate restoration and fast protection of traffic.
Telmex Chile’s Technical Management Director, Francisco Sabioncello stated that the optical network would be the first network in Chile that allows transmission of bandwidth-intensive services. Sabioncello added that the network would offer intelligent redundancy abilities to guard the traffic during unexpected failures, including earthquakes.
