The California Lighting Technology Center (CLTC) and Cooper Lighting have installed Cooper Lighting’s HALO LED 600 Series recessed downlights at the Bidwell Mansion Visitor Center (BMVC) in California. The BMVC necessitated energy-efficient LED lights for the retrofitting of compact fluorescent (CFL) and T12 strip lights.
The CLTC and Cooper Lighting joined with the Public Interest Energy Research of the California Energy Commission, for the retrofit project. The HALO LED 600 Series recessed downlight was chosen as it is ideal for new construction and retrofit markets. The downlights offer broad spectrum light and dimming efficiently on standard analog dimmers. The lights surpass the requirements of California Title 24 regulations, and are ENERGY STAR rated. The LED downlights feature low power consumption, continuous dimming control, and high lumen output.
The BMVC’s lights were retrofitted through the State Partnership in Energy Efficiency Demonstrations (SPEED) Program, in two phases. A 3-foot T12 strip lamp, and 14 10-inch CFL recessed downlights were retrofitted with 16 HALO LED 600 downlights, in the first phase. In addition, 11 downlights over the information desk and in the visual/audio room were replaced with the LED lights. The retrofits resulted in energy savings of 51%, with 560 pounds of annual reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
