BLADE Network Technologies has launched a new 10 G switch featuring 40 G Ethernet uplinks. The Ethernet uplinks can be utilized to link the switch to core or end-of-row data center switches with 40 G Ethernet interfaces.
The 40 G ports of the G8264 switch can be divided into four 10 G interfaces. The ports can also be utilized for stacking the G8264 switch.
According to BLADE, the switch can support fiber or copper cabling and consumes 5.8 W of energy for each port. The switch has both DC and AC power and delivers rear-to-front and front-to-rear cooling.
The 10 G switch can also support data center-specific capabilities for detecting virtual machines and executing multipath fabrics, PIM and IGMP Multicast, IETF TRILL and Converged Enhanced Ethernet. The switch is based on ASIC that cuts down cost, heat, power and latency when compared to multi-ASIC switches.
