Bruker Acquires Veeco’s OIM and AFM Businesses

Bruker, a provider of scientific devices, has purchased the optical industrial metrology (OIM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) instruments businesses of Veeco Instruments, for $229.4 million. The OIM and AFM instruments businesses are now a portion of the Bruker Nano Division, belonging to the Bruker AXS Group.

The portfolio of Bruker includes a wide range of AFM hybrid, vibrational spectroscopy, XRF microanalysis, X-Ray Fluorescence, and X-Ray Diffraction systems, along with EBSD and EDS analyzer accessories for electron microscopes. The systems are utilized for nanotechnology R&D and surface analysis of materials. Bruker is a supplier of life-science research devices, with a portfolio of X-ray crystallography, life-science mass spectrometry, EPR, pre-clinical MRI, and high-performance NMR devices.

Mark R. Munch, who was previously the Executive VP of Metrology and Instrumentation Business of Veeco, has now been appointed as the President of Bruker Nano. He is responsible for the OIM and AFM businesses.

Bruker’s Chief Executive Officer, Frank Laukien stated that the company is pleased about acquiring the OIM and AFM businesses. He added that the businesses complement the company’s market and product strategies.
