Level 3 to Provide Fiber Optic Services to Virginia Commonwealth University

Supplier of fiber-based communication services, Level 3 Communications will offer Ethernet private line (EPL) and high-speed Internet Protocol (HSIP) services to the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). Over 18,000 employees and 32,000 students are presently enrolled in the university.

VCU, under a five-year agreement, will utilize Level 3’s network to meet the increasing requirement for bandwidth among its employees and students. The University Computing Center will deploy the EPL and HSIP services.

Network Architect for VCU, William Jones stated that the vast network services from Level 3 allow the university to create enhanced efficiency among the campus networks and provide students with a vast amount of information.

Level 3’s President of Sales, Andrew Crouch commented that the company’s highly-scalable data and internet services are utilized to transport huge volumes of educational and research data. Crouch added that the fiber-optic network provides the scalability, resiliency and efficiency required to support high-quality academic collaboration.
