BIOLASE Technology announced that Henry Schein, a distributor of dental and medical products, has placed a purchase order worth $9 million for the products of BIOLASE.
Henry Schein has ordered the iLase personal laser for $6 million, while the rest of the money will be used for buying additional iLase systems or other laser systems such as the Waterlase MD Turbo. The purchase order is anticipated to be completed by June 2011.
The iLase personal laser incorporates 10 preset hygiene and soft tissue procedures at a button press. The procedures include sulcular debridement for cleaning between teeth and gums, troughing for bridge and crown procedures, and gingivectomy. The iLase has a wavelength of 940 nm, and 5 W of power. It utilizes BIOLASE's multi-diameter/length bendable tips. It also has a complete set of 25 hygiene and soft tissue procedures that are cleared by the FDA.
BIOLASE’s Chairman, Federico Pignatelli stated that the iLase is a hand-held, self-contained dental laser incorporating controls, battery power, and user interface in one handpiece, without any cord or foot pedal. He added that not only a dentist, but also a dental hygienist could utilize the iLase.
